Frequently Asked Questions

  • The nature of Argentine Tango is improvisation. It is not a dance based in patterns and sequences, its foundation lies in connection, a silent conversation between the couple where the leader proposes a step and the follower responds as they move together around the dance floor. Connecting with the music, space and other dancers.

The only thing that is not improvised is the music. The more that we know the music the more we will be able to express ourselves in the dance.

The goal of these group classes is to develop a tango vocabulary, body awareness, self- expression, and musical sensitivity through tango technique. This technique will enable you to further work on your own dance. ption text goes here

  • In a workshop, students work on key tango movements and concepts in a concentrated amount of time. We offer workshops over the course of one afternoon/evening, an entire weekend, or over the course of a month. No partner necessary. Pre-registration is highly encouraged for each workshop to ensure there is proper role balance for each workshop. We will make every attempt to have an equal number of leaders and followers.

  • In private classes students work on tailored exercises that help them improve key elements of their dance. By the end of each lesson, you receive a set of exercises that you can later apply in private practice. In combination with group classes and social dancing, privates are an excellent way to refine technique and enhance personal style. Privates are available for both individuals and couples.

  • Not at all! Our classes are geared towards people who have never danced before! We make fancy dance language accessible so you can get onto the dance floor as soon as possible.

  • You will be dancing tango by the end of your first class! While tango is often a lifelong pursuit, we aim for you to cover all of the “basic” material over the course of 6 weeks. There is no “basic step” in tango, but there are a few basic patterns. We have designed our class cycles to cover all of the material if you come in consistently, but don’t worry if you have to skip a week.

  • We encourage everyone to switch partners throughout the class, but if you would like to stay with the partner you arrived with, just let us know!

  • We offer a drop in class rate, and a discounted multi class package. The 3 week packages must be used within that specified time frame, however if you have to miss a class feel free to send a friend in your place! We do not offer refunds for unused classes.

  • We recommend shoes that are leather soled, or another material that can slip. Rubber soled shoes are highly discouraged. The shoe should hold your ankle as well. For women, if you are not used to dancing in high heels we recommend bringing flat shoes for the solo technique.

  • Argentine Tango is danced in a closed embrace, therefore we all need to be aware of our hygiene. We recommend always brushing your teeth before dancing, showering, washing your hands, and wearing fresh clothing.
